As with any tech-related enterprise, setting up a new DSL account requires some basic knowledge of computers and networking concepts. Most modem and router manufacturers helpfully flatten the learning curve by including a startup disk with their products that does the hard work for you. However, if you've lost the disk, your disk drive doesn't work or you just simply want to enhance your geek cred, configuring new DSL service yourself is imminently doable without the hand-holding provided by the disk.
